What to Expect from an Ammonia cracker Unit?

These are the generators facilitating a chemical reaction involving ammonia i.e. NH3 disintegrated to produce hydrogen and nitrogen. These generators are the catalytic cracking units with the following reaction happening:

2NH3 = 3H2 + N2

Ammonia used here is of refrigeration grade and is supplied to the ammonia cracker unit from cylinders or tanks as feed. Ammonia crackers have been designed and developed in a wide flow range. Ranging from 1 nm3/hr, very small compact systems to extremely high cracked gas flow rates in a furnace to maximum of 1000 nm3/hr are being offered.

Purity

A unit will produce 75% H2: 25% N2 in general as a Standard output of cracked gas mixture. However, this ratio can be customized with the help of the manufacturer through some design changes as per requirement. The cracked gas mix can be modulated to get different percentages of hydrogen and nitrogen. The concentration of uncracked ammonia can also be modulated from 100 ppm to 1 ppm. Well, it all depends on the customer’s requirements and budget.

So, one can get their unit tailored to obtain the desired gas purity.

Highly pure Hydrogen

Some popular manufacturers of cracking units assure the generation of highly pure cracked gas through their customized units. Gasair Multitech LLP is one such reliable manufacturer who can customize their unit to obtain pure hydrogen up to 99%. They place the purification unit downstream of the cracker furnace. This helps in removing the excess Nitrogen and uncracked ammonia. Resulting in highly pure Hydrogen.

Dew Point

Similarly, there can be varied requirements of the customers when it comes to the dew point. The cracking unit by Gasair Multitech is designed to generate cracked ammonia gas at a dew point below (-) 80°C.

Pressure

Units by Gasair Multitech are also preferred as cracked gas by these units can be delivered at high pressure up to 7kg/cm2g that too without a booster compressor. And even higher pressure is possible.

Gasair Multitech has been developing these units and PSA nitrogen generators for years now for various industries including heat treatment furnaces, annealing, sintering, galvanizing, Stainless Steel, and Carbon Steel bright annealing.
